Carol Thornton is a senior fundraising executive with more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Her skills include campaign management, endowment and planned giving program development, alumni relations, annual giving, prospect identification, major gift solicitation, volunteer development and communications.

Ms. Thornton has worked with a variety of nonprofit organizations including education, health care and human service agencies helping them raise more than $100 million for capital, annual and endowment projects. Ms. Thornton has served as the dean of development for St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School, the director of development for Christian Brothers University and the University of Tennessee, College of Medicine, and as an endowment officer at ALSAC-St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Ms. Thornton received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Memphis. She was a member of the faculty in the Department of Sociology at the University of Memphis for seven years. During that time she also engaged in marketing research consulting for a large national corporation. She has held the CFRE certification since 2000.

Ms. Thornton presents frequently at conferences sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and has served in leadership roles for District III of CASE. She has also served on the faculty of the CASE Workshop for Newcomers in Development and Introduction to Personal Solicitation.
